Review
The Black Widow has secrets that are decades-old. Secrets that should belong to her and the dead. Secrets that don't keep forever, used as tools by a villain to make things personal. Who is this villain? How does the villain know about the Widow's secrets? This book's story transcends through decades and characters and filled in every way possible with the essence of the Black Widow. Each character has a distinct voice, and while a range of characters appear (including Wolverine, Iron Man, Bucky, Elektra and so forth), the book never seems clogged. Everything is there for a purpose. The book really shows how compelling of a character really is. Her internal monologue reflect her hardened age and the point where her relentlessness meets compassion. The art is amazing, although the cover does not do this book justice. The art is gritty yet soft, dark when it needs to be and full of contrasting colour during the crescendos of the story. It is absolutely gorgeous. On the negative side, this book's story was confusing during my first read (difficult to wrap my head around the different time period). I also noticed some minor art inconsistencies. Thirdly, (although this is probably subjective) I found some of the Black Widow's humour to be jarringly cheesy.
